AirVenture NOTAM
2010 AirVenture NOTAM
The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010 NOTAM is now available for order or download. The free 32-page booklet is an absolute must if you're flying an aircraft to Oshkosh this year. It outlines all arrival/departure procedures, radio frequencies, Wittman Regional Airport details and much more. Although many of the procedures are similar to previous years, there are updates in nearly every area to enhance safety, efficiency and convenience for the thousands of airplanes expected at the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. The EAA AirVenture NOTAM is required reading and should be part of a pilot's preflight preparation. You can download here. (approx. 1,9 MB PDF).

NWS Oshkosh Aviation Weather Radar Support
The National Weather Service (NWS) has designed a web site to provide pilots and air traffic controllers with current and forecast weather information in and around Oshkosh and AirVenture Oshkosh 2010. The web page displays the terminal forecast for KOSH, a time series of surface wind, and probability of thunderstorms in hourly increments at Ripon, Fisk and Oshkosh, superimposed with the latest radar imagery. Further information may be obtained at the NWS booth located in the Federal Pavilion. Feel free to offer suggestions and/or feedback to the NWS.

EAA Seaplane Base
The AirVenture Seaplane Base (identifier 96WI) is located on the west shore of Lake Winnebago 5 miles southeast of Oshkosh - Wittman Regional Airport (OSH). Seaplane arrivals should avoid nearby Class C and D airspace and should NOT use the Fisk VFR arrival route. Approaches and departures should be to the east over Lake Winnebago. Contact the Seaplane Base (123.3 or 920-230-7829) for water condition information and current Seaplane Base information. Additional information and procedures are listed on the Seaplane Base web site: www.oshkoshseaplanebase.com

CAUTION: When runway 36L departure procedures are in effect during AirVenture, aircraft departing Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) on runway 36L will fly just west of the Seaplane Base at or below 1,300' MSL.

Aircraft Parking Status
The aircraft parking information and field conditions can be accessed on our Aircraft Parking Status page

Aircraft Judging Manual
The EAA Official Judging Standards is compiled by the EAA Judging Standards Committee. The EAA Official Judging Standards is the basis of judging at AirVenture and other major fly-ins and provides judges and the exhibitor/competitors in each class the rules and criteria, which are used in evaluating the aircraft. View or download the 2009 judging manual

Safe Ground Operations for Conventional Gear (Tail Wheel) Aircraft
All pilots feel a need to be vigilant regarding safety issues. They carefully inspect their aircraft during pre-flight, run up the engine(s), check the weather. They ask themselves, “Am I physically and mentally ready to fly today?” Simply stated, pilots make many critical, safety-based decisions before the wheels start to roll.  Learn more

Departure Briefing
All pilots departing on Runway 18/36 before the daily air show should have a departure briefing, available on ATIS (128.75), in the EAA AirVenture NOTAM, or in the Departure Briefing shack located east of the control tower starting at 7 a.m., at the tent in South Aircraft Parking (Row 113), or from the roving briefer circulation through the South aircraft parking in a vehicle with a Departure Briefing sign.

Foreign Visitors
All pilots flying into (and out of) the U.S. to attend AirVenture Oshkosh must provide their aircraft and passenger information to the U.S. Customs forms via the electronic Advanced Passenger Information System (eAPIS) at least 60 minutes prior to their last non-U.S. airport departure.

There is an additional Transportation Security Administration (TSA) border crossing notification requirement for all border crossing pilots who cannot comply with NOTAM 9/2788. For general aviation pilots flying aircraft that weigh less than 100,309 pounds that generally means if your aircraft does not have a transponder or a radio you must submit a request for a TSA International Waiver at least 5 days prior to your flight.

Canadian pilots flying Canadian registered amateur-built aircraft or advanced ultralight aircraft need a FAA Special Flight Authorization (SFA) to fly in the U.S. Follow the instructions on this FAA web site, then print the SFA form and keep it in your aircraft while flying in the U.S.

Canadian pilots flying any other Canadian registered experimental aircraft (Warbird, etc.) must contact the Milwaukee Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) at 414-486-2920 (fax: 414-486-2921) to obtain your SFA.

EAA Provides Guidance for Understanding New Border-Crossing Rules
EAA is providing assistance to general aviation pilots affected by new U.S. Customs (CBP) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) federal rules for U.S. border crossing. Tools available to general aviation pilots entering the U.S., departing the U.S., or otherwise crossing the U.S. border by air include an overview document plus additional updates for sorting out the various and complex requirements, and a downloadable kneeboard fact sheet for quick reference.

Foreign pilots filling out the electronic CBP Private Aircraft APIS forms or the electronic TSA International Waiver forms may use either the address for Wittman Regional Airport or EAA as your AirVenture 2009 destination address:

Clearing U.S. Customs
Wittman Regional Airport, Oshkosh, WI, is not an airport of entry for clearing U.S. Customs - you can not clear customs at Oshkosh - U.S. Customs will not be providing any services at Oshkosh before, during or after AirVenture. To find a aviation port of entry call U.S. Customs at 312-983-9100 or visit their web site. This information may also be obtained by asking a FAA Flight Service Station by calling 1-800-WX-Brief.

Graphic TFR Notams
When flying in the U.S. EAA strongly encourages you to check Notams for current temporary flight restrictions (TFR's) that may affect your route of flight. There are two methods available to do this:

  1. EAA Flight Planner - plots your desired route of flight and shows any TFR's that may affect the flight. The TFR display on this site allows you to show the TFR on many different types of aviation maps, including a VFR section.
  2. FAA Graphic NOTAM web page - using the links for each posted TFR, this site allows you to read the exact NOTAM and also provides a link to a graphic display of the TFR area. The graphic display does not allow you the option to select different types of aviation maps to display the TFR on.
